Quaternary ammonium compounds (Quats) are the industry standard for broad-spectrum disinfection in grooming salons because they are highly effective, non-corrosive to tools, and safe for animals when properly diluted. Undiluted bleach is toxic and corrosive, 10% alcohol is ineffective (requires 70%), and formaldehyde is a severe health hazard.
